Fighting Spirit at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Childrens Championships

The first day of racing at the Delancey British Children’s Alpine Ski Championships gave spectators and parents alike a lesson in how dedicated and inspiring these young skiers are.

The adverse weather affecting the whole of the French Alps created extremely difficult conditions. The organisers were forced to make the decision to cancel the second run of both the U16 and U14 slalom, due to adverse snow and weather conditions.

Despite this, all the racers showed great spirit and every competitor gave all they could give on their first and only slalom run, making coaches, spectators, parents and organisers incredibly proud.

The finish area was full with spectators cheering on the racers and fellow team mates, showing just how much these competitors can really bring to their sport, even at their young ages.

In the U16 Slalom, Angus Wills put in a strong performance posting a time of 47.96 to top the boy’s results. For the girls, it was Alicja Krahelski who impressed with the fastest run of the day at 46.91. Unfortunately, due to technical issues with the timing, there was no result in the U14 Slalom.

Tomorrow will see the U14s competing in a one run Giant Slalom, and there will also be a Giant Slalom for the U10 and U12s. This is a great opportunity for the children to gain valuable racing experience, working as a team with their clubs and striving for the best as individuals.
