Greatest sporting achievement to date

Competing at my first World Championships in Oslo in 2011.

Sporting hero

My first sporting memory is the Barcelona Olympics, especially Sally Gunnell and Linford Christie winning. I’m most inspired by some of the great women’s teams around in xc skiing at the moment, like Norway and the US.

Most important support person

My parents, they’ve put up with me moving back home to be able to train full time this year. Then there is my coach Roy, whose favourite pastime, I think, is coming up with new and nasty training plans for me.

Favourite discipline

The sprint is my favourite event, I love the adrenaline rush you get lining up on the start line with 5 other people and racing head to head.

What would I do if not an athlete?

If I wasn’t an athlete I’d probably have a real job, which wouldn’t be nearly as exciting! I’ve been studying French and Russian at university so I would probably be working as a translator or something that uses my languages.

Best racing location

My favourite place to ski would have to be Sjusjoen, Norway. Our team has spent many years at training camps in Sjusjoen but there are still hundreds of kilometres of tracks I haven’t skied there. The best time to ski there is definitely the spring, when the sun comes out and the trails are packed with families out skiing and people barbecuing at trail side huts.

The best thing about cross country skiing

Getting out for a ski on a sunny day with freshly groomed tracks or out in the mountains and the feel of fresh new snow under your skis is simply the best.
