British Ski and Snowboard (BSS) is the National Governing Body for Skiing and Snowboarding in the United Kingdom. Recognised by the International Ski Federation (FIS) and by the British Olympic Association (BOA), we manage the elite British teams and the development pathway for those elite teams.

We select, manage and lead British teams to international events, promote participation in FIS disciplines, and provide opportunities for our athletes to achieve their full potential as individuals and as a team. Our long-term vision is to become one of the world’s top five skiing and snowboarding nations by 2030, and have a clear strategy which works towards Great Britain challenging for world class and Olympic medals - not only in the Park and Pipe disciplines, where they are already one of the leading nations - but in all skiing and snowboarding disciplines.

We provide development programs in four FIS disciplines: Alpine, Cross Country, Freestyle and Snowboarding. We also licence competitors in Telemark, Speed Skiing and Ski Jumping.

Between 300 and 400 athletes are registered with us and compete in international events, and we work closely with Clubs, Academies and the Home Nations to provide opportunities for aspiring international athletes.

Our Story

British Ski and Snowboard was formed in February 2010 to take over the development and management of elite British snowsports after the previous governing organisation ran into difficulties.
At the time, the British Olympic Association helped launch British Ski and Snowboard to enable athletes who were already in the training camps for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics to compete. With the support from personal donors, commercial sponsors and some government lottery money, BSS raised enough funds to support the team of athletes in Vancouver.

Sochi 2014

Our continuous development and growth as an organisation saw unprecedented success for our British athletes at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games - a huge milestone for competitive snowsports in the UK.
With six top 10 finishes - including Britain’s first ever Winter Olympic Snowboard medal - a further five athletes in the top 20, and three more in th top 30, our British skiers and snowboarders gave strong performances across all disciplines.

Road to PyeongChang 2018

We are now on the run up to the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, and hope to challenge for even more medals.
The 2016/2017 season was the most successful yet for British sking and snowboarding, including 15 World Cup podiums and 3 World Championship podiums. GB Park and Pipe collectively achieved 2 World Championship podiums, 8 World Cup podiums, including 2 wins, and 3 X Games medals. In Alpine Britain claimed their first World Cup podium in 35 years, and in Cross Country we saw the best ever result of 4th in a World Championships for a British skier. In Telemark, Britain achieved an impressive 6 World Cup podiums and 1 World Championship podium.
With huge potential coming in from young and motivated athletes across all of our disciplines, our aim is to give them the best opportunities to reach their full potential, in order to maintain this high level of sucess we are now seeing from British athletes in skiing and snowboarding.

Funding and opportunities

We are fortunate and grateful to receive strong backing from a number of organisations, commercial sponsors and personal donors, but are always looking for ways to expand our programmes and create further investment opportunities.

If you are interested in finding out more details about how you, your company or organisation can be involved in sponsorship of elite British snowsports, please contact Sophie Morrison via email at [email protected] or call 0207 842 5764.

We are partly funded through UK Sport, the organisation responsible for distributing National Lottery funding to elite sport based on ‘Podium Potential’ at Olympic and Paralympic level. Following a year of success in 2014, British Ski and Snowboard were awarded with £4.89 million by UK Sport covering the next Olympic cycle for the Park and Pipe Programme, including Ski and Snowboard Slopestyle and Half Pipe.

We are immensely proud to be supported by Delancey as headline sponsors of BSS. A specialist real estate investment company, Delancey have a property portfolio that covers retail, residential and commercial developments across London and the UK.
This headline sponsorship is in addition to the title sponsorship of the Delancey British National Alpine Championships.
The support from Delancey for the Sochi 2014 campaign was a key element of its success. Now looking forward to PyeongChang 2018, the Delancey sponsorship funding will provide crucial training and development programmes to enable upcoming and established British athletes to be the best they can be at the next Winter Olympics.

investment opportunities

The British Snowsports Fund is a fundraising initiative which supports British snowsports athletes. We are asking the UK’s recreational skiers and snowboarders to make a small donation to help boost the chances of our future Olympic athletes. We’re making this as easy as possible by enabling people to make a donation alongside a purchase with one of our partner organisations, who include holiday companies, kit manufacturers and retailers.
