Winter Olympian Ellie Koyander takes another Silver at FIS Europa Cup
After a stunningly consistent competition season so far, Ellie Koyander took yet another Europa Cup podium yesterday finishing in 2nd place. The night event at Jÿvaskyla, Finland, was the penultimate competition of the FIS Freestyle Moguls Skiing Europa Cup tour, a series of 11 races hosted throughout Europe to establish the overall European Champion.
This is Ellie's 5th Europa Cup podium of the season positioning her 2nd overall on the leader board. The series concludes with just two final races in Äre, Sweden next week where Ellie looks set to be the first British moguls skier ever to challenge the European Championship podium.
Qualifying high in the preliminary round and skiing to an impressive silver medal position in the finals Ellie performed one of the fastest paces pulling a 360 spin off the top jump and a huge big backflip off the bottom jump. Her overall score was 70.23 less than 1 point from first place position.
About her races in Finland Ellie commented:
'I'm really pumped to be performing so well, I just love the feeling of consistently attacking the podium and I have been in the top 5 in every race! The tour has been so varied and Finland has been no exception. There was a downpour of rain in the lead up to the competition and as the temperature dropped we were skiing on slush one minute where the moguls cut deeper and deeper and then skiing on hard polished icy rock-solid bumps the next! The course got really challenging and was technically very demanding so I am really proud to have been able to adapt my skiing to the conditions and execute my best when it counted!'
Ellie now heads to Sweden, for the final two events where she hopes to upgrade her Silver to Gold.
Moguls skiing is a challenging and exciting Olympic Discipline where athletes ski as fast as they can down a steep bumpy slope whilst also pulling two aerial manoeuvres off the two jumps.
