Top 10 for Cheshire but frustration for Gillings in a weekend of mixed results for Team BSS
At the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Cup in Copper Mountain, Colorado, there was a strong result for Rowan Cheshire in the Ski Halfpipe where she finished in 10th place, her best position to date and a big boost to her chances of meeting the Olympic Qualifying Standards for Sochi 2014. Emma Lonsdale and Murray Buchan missed out on the finals.
James ‘Woodsy’ Woods had to be content with 11th in the Ski Slopestyle finals, after qualifying first in his heat. Tyler Harding missed out on the final as did Anna Vincenti, who was riding with a broken thumb.
In Snowboard Slopestyle, Aimee Fuller narrowly missed out on a place in the finals after finishing in 11th place in qualification. Visibility was tricky, with Fuller describing conditions as ‘some of the toughest conditions of my life’. Katie Ormerod also missed out on the final, placing 31st in the heats.
For the men, Jamie Nicholls was 5th in his heat and finished 17th overall. Sam Turnbull and Nate Kern failed to make it through qualification in a strong field.
In Lake Louise, at the Snowboard Cross World Cup, Zoe Gillings had a frustrating time after getting taken down by a rival who fell just in front of her in the quarter final. This was after a strong performance in the heats where she was ranked in 7th. Stephanie Gehrig and Thomas Bankes missed out on the finals.
In San Candido /Innichen, Italy, Ski Cross hopefuls Emily Sarsfield, Pam Thorburn, Ed Drake and Pete Whelan all failed to make the finals, after finishing outside the top 32. A frustrating race for all four of them as they aim to reach the Olympic Qualifying Standard.
In the FIS Freestyle Aerials World Cup, which took place in the iconic Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing, Harry Gillam and Lloyd Wallace both missed out on the final, ranking 32nd and 36th respectively.
In the FIS Alpine Europa Cup in Madonna di Campiglio, TJ Baldwin finished 32nd in the Downhill, but unfortunately Dougie Crawford DNF. The Super G was cancelled because of the weather. Baldwin then went to compete in the Europa Cup Downhill where he came in 14th, narrowly missing out on hitting a Olympic Qualification Standard result.
