Thorburn and Drake miss out on Ski Cross finals and more World Cup action this weekend for British skiers and snowboarders
Yesterday saw Pam Thorburn and Ed Drake compete in the qualifiers of the Ski Cross World Cup in Val Thorens. Unfortunately both athletes failed to make it through to the next round, with Ed Drake finishing in 58th and Pam Thorburn DNF. They will now turn their focus to the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships, which start next week in Austria.
After Andrew Musgrave made history this week in the Tour de Ski, finishing as the fastest athlete in the 25km Freestyle Pursuit, he goes into the final two races of the Tour de Ski in Val di Fiemme (Italy) this weekend lying in 11th place. Saturday is the 15km Classic mass start competition and Sunday the traditional Final Climb (9km Freestyle Pursuit) up Alpe Cermis where Musgrave hopes to improve on his overall Tour de Ski standing. Andrew Young, Posy Musgrave and Fiona Hughes are all in Falun, Sweden for the Scandinavian Cup races. They race today in the 15km (Men) and 10km (Women) races, tomorrow in the Sprint and Sunday in the 30km (Men) and 15km (Women) races.
Delancey British Alpine Ski Team athlete Dave Ryding is back in World Cup action this Sunday in the Slalom in Adelbolden, Switzerland. The first run is at 9am and the second run at midday UK time, both will be shown on Eurosport.
Moguls skier Ellie Koyander is in Deer Valley at the moment, competing in the Moguls World Cup. She competes today in the Single Moguls event and the Dual Moguls takes place tomorrow (Saturday) evening.
For the Park and Pipe athletes, they are now preparing for next week’s Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in Kreischberg, Austria, which run from 14-25 January. The full schedule can be found on the official website www.kreischberg2015.at.
Some of the British Snowboard Juniors are in Livigno for the Snowboard World Rookie Fest which starts tomorrow and runs until 15th January. Riding for GBR at this event are Billy Cockrell, Fin Bremner, Glen Ironside and Maisie Hill.
