Team BSS stars round off January with fantastic top 10 results
At the Burton European Open in Laax, Switzerland, British snowboarders Jamie Nicholls and Aimee Fuller did themselves proud with two top ten results in a strong field. Jamie took 9th overall, as did Aimee Fuller in the Ladies’. Billy Morgan brought home a top 20 result with a 19th place finish, as Stale Sandbech and Mark McMorris battled it out for the podium, with Stale clinching the top spot.
Andrew Musgrave put in a strong performance at the Norwegian Cross Country Ski Championships on Saturday, finishing 8th overall in the 30km Skiathlon – just 40 seconds behind race winner Petter Northug after 1 hour 10 mins of racing. This followed 9th place in the 15km race on Thursday. Team mate Andrew Young came 46th in Friday’s Sprint at the Norwegian Championships, before heading over to Almaty for the Cross Country World Junior & U23 Championships where he joined teammates James Clugnet, Sam Cairns, Gregor Young, Sarah Hale and Fern Cates. Ellie Koyander rounded off a successful week at the Airolo Moguls Europa Cup. Following two podium spots, Ellie took a 4th place in the last race of the week in Switzerland, before heading to Italy this week for the next Europa Cup event. Aerials skier Elodie Wallace also achieved her best ever Europa Cup result with a 5th place in Raubichi, Belarus. Elodie said "It has been an interesting trip to a unique country. I'm so glad we came. Jumping here was challenging but I've learned a lot." Her previous best result was 6th, last year in Airolo. Lloyd Wallace also had a great result in the Aerials World Cup in Lake Placid, finishing in 18th place and scoring a personal best for a triple with a 91.35.
For the Delancey British Alpine Ski Team, the World Championships in Vail-Beaver Creek begin this week with Dave Ryding, Jack Gower, Charlie Raposo, Alex Tilley and Charlie Guest heading out to the States this week to begin training in advance of their races which will start on 12th February.
This week, before the World Championships, Alex Tilley, Charlie Guest and Natalia Harte are competing at the San Candido Europa Cup on 4th and 5th February, with Alex and Charlie looking to use them as preparation races ahead of their first World Championships.
