Day five of the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships in Meribel saw Charlie Raposo and Charlie Guest take Gold in the Mens and Ladies National Championship (NC) Giant Slalom respectively.

Tricky conditions saw yesterday’s champion Dougie Crawford take a tumble, leaving the podium open for U18 racer Charlie Raposo. Having only arrived in Meribel for the technical races yesterday, Raposo from London won Gold with an impressive total time of 2.13.76. Hot on his tail was Nick Moynihan who took silver with 2.14.39, and then Max Baggio, who took bronze with a total time of 2.19.92.

Talking after the race, Charlie Raposo said: “I’m pretty psyched, it’s been a good day. It would have been nice for Jack Gower to finish to battle it out, but it was good regardless. The conditions were interesting today, the first run was great, I was running bib 3 but the 2nd run was pretty brutal, I haven’t been that tired all year, it was bit of a fight. I’m looking forward to ripping up the Slalom.”

Meanwhile, in the Ladies, Charlie Guest reigned supreme with an incredibly fast time of 2.19.62, followed by Cara Brown in 2nd with a total time 2.24.23 and then Alice Macaulay in 3rd with 2.24.71.

Talking about her performance, Charlie Guest said: “I’m really happy with my performance today. I brought some of my best skiing in the first run which is exactly what I wanted to do today. Hopefully I can set the bar for some of the younger races coming up and they’ve got something to chase down. I’m excited about the Slalom tomorrow although this season GS has definitely been my best discipline, but I’ll try and put my best runs down and see what happens.”

As the Men’s NC Giant Slalom was sponsored by UVEX this year, the Managing Director, John Gill proudly presented the NC Giant Slalom cup to Charlie Raposo, he commented: “We are delighted to significantly increase the provision of equipment to the British Alpine Team. This is the beginning of a 4 year period of support and hopefully we can share our development in technology to help the athletes go forward. We are happy to be part of what looks like a really rosy future.”

The 2014 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships is the biggest event in the British Alpine ski racing calendar and is supported for the fourth year by Delancey, Principal Sponsor of British Ski and Snowboard. The Senior and Junior Championships take place from 30 March to 7 April, followed by the Under 16 and Under 14 Championships, from 8 April to 11 April.
