Lloyd Wallace places 7th in FIS Worldmasters Freestyle Water-Jump Champs 2014

Lloyd Wallace gave a very strong performance at the Worldmasters Freestyle Water-Jump Championships 2014 FIS event on Sunday 17th August in Mettmenstetten, Switzerland - one of the top aerial events of the summer.
This was the first time Lloyd did triple somersaults in competition, and he put all 4 to his feet. In the qualification rounds he performed lay-full-full and lay-full-tuck, scoring 96.5 and 90.3 points. The top 12 athletes went through to finals, with Lloyd in 9th place. There were then 3 knockout rounds, going from 12 to 9, and finally down to 6 places. In Round One, Lloyd performed lay-full-full again and a double twisting triple to stay in 9th place. In Round Two, he performed a new jump for the first time - lay double-full tuck - his highest DD ever. It was well executed and landed, and pushed him up to 7th place, one place off the super finals. The contest was won by reigning Olympic Champion Anton Kushnir of Belarus.
Lloyd said “my heart was pumping pretty hard at the top. I wasn’t really scared, so it must have been adrenaline. In a triple we get around 15M off the water, so the impact on landing is huge”.
There were World Cup teams from USA, Switzerland, Belarus, Ukraine plus Germany and Britain and a huge vocal crowd at the training centre near Zurich.
Lloyd, 19 from Wiltshire was also 2nd in the Junior classification. He remains in Switzerland for ongoing training.
