Koyander continues her run of Moguls podiums and Andrew Young finishes top 15 at World U23 & Junior Cross Country Championships
Ellie Koyander has had another great week continuing her run of podiums after finishing 3rd on Tuesday and 2nd on Wednesday at the Europa Cup at Chiesa in Valmalenco. This follows her two podium finishes last week in Airolo, Switzerland.
British Cross Country skier Andrew Young came a credible 12th place overall in the U23 Men’s Sprint Class after finishing 6th in the semi-finals at the Cross Country World Junior & U23 Championships in Almaty. He then went on to claim 16th place in the 15km Freestyle event yesterday. Tuesday saw the Junior team compete in the Sprint with Sarah Hale finishing 41st and Fern Cates 29th in the Ladies field. James Clugnet got a personal best FIS point score in the Sprint finishing 60th, Sam Cairns placed 73rd and Gregor Young just behind in 74th. Wednesday saw the Ladies 5k Free with Hale coming in 59th and Cates 65th whilst in the men’s 10k Free, Clugnet finished 66th, Cairns 80th and Young 83rd.
James Woods is over in the US in Mammoth Mountain competing at the US Freeskiing Grand Prix. Unfortunately yesterday’s Men’s Ski Slopestyle qualifiers were postponed due to high winds, but will hopefully run over the next few days.
Ahead of the World Championships in Vail-Beaver Creek, Delancey British Alpine Ski Team athletes Alex Tilley and Natalia Harte have been in San Candido, with Natalia taking 50th in the Slalom FIS race and unfortunately both skiers DNF in the Europa Cup GS.
Although the World Championships in Vail-Beaver Creek have already started, action for the British athletes doesn’t get underway until next Thursday when Alex Tilley and Charlie Guest will go in the Ladies GS, followed by the Slalom on Saturday 14th. For the men, competing for Great Britain is Dave Ryding (Slalom), Jack Gower (GS) and Charlie Raposo (GS and Slalom). The Men’s GS takes place on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th February with the Slalom taking place on Sunday 15th February.
Yesterday saw the start of the Arosa Ski Cross World Cup where Ed Drake just missed out on the finals, finishing in 52nd in one qualifier and DNF in the second. Both Pam Thorburn and Liz Stevenson also missed out on Friday and Saturday’s finals.
