Katie Summerhayes becomes World Junior Champion in Ski Slopestyle
Winter Olympian Katie Summerhayes was today crowned World Junior Champion in Ski Slopestyle after a win at the Junior World Ski Championships in Valmalenco, Italy.
The 18 year old, who finished seventh at Sochi 2014, beat off a strong field to score a run of 86.80 ahead of Norway’s Johanne Killi and Germany's Sabrina Cakmakli.
There was also some strong performances from the other British athletes in the Ski Slopestyle contest. Molly Summerhayes came 11th and for the men, Cal Sandieson came 7th, Mike Rowlands 30th and Joe Hides 43rd.
Great Britain Freestyle Ski Head Coach Pat Sharples said: "Today Katie totally deserved this win. Her first run she was super technical on the rails and she was spinning both ways on the jumps and included the switch 900. Cal Sandieson also had his best ever international comp result by placing 7th overall and the first ever make GB athlete to make finals in slopestyle at the World Juniors. These are amazing results for us as the winter is coming to an end. The next competition for us is in Whistler for the World Ski and Snowboard Festival where Woodsy will be competing."
