Jenny Jones takes Silver Medal at the opening World Cup of the Winter season

After a day of very difficult weather conditions with mist hampering proceedings all day,  the men's slopestyle competition was finally cancelled which was a blow for the GBR Team as Billy Morgan had easily qualified in 4th place during his heat on Sunday and looked set for another great result.

However the women's event was well worth the wait with three snowboarders representing Great Britain: Jenny Jones, Aimee Fuller and Katie Ormerod who all looked on good form coming into the qualification round.

Jenny Jones was a standout all day with solid, confident riding in whatever conditions were thrown at her. She stepped things up to be the only women to land a Frontside 720 in her run and combined with solid rails tricks and a super stylish Backside 360, she was easily in the favourites after the qualification round. Although the weather still did not improve for finals, Jenny kept her head and with another great Frontside 720, rode in to a well deserved second place behind USA team rider Jamie Anderson. Cheryl Maas from The Netherlands took the third spot.

"Today was tough with persistent fog all day which meant very little practice. I was so relieved to stay on my feet and make it past qualifications. Putting down my run in the finals in such harsh conditions and finishing in 2nd has put a huge smile on my face" said Jenny after receiving her Silver medal.

Unfortunately things did not go to plan for Katie who got some of the worst conditions in her first run and she landed a bit short on the second jump, slightly injuring her knee and ruling out her second run. Despite this she put on a great show and was the only female to cab 270 on to the wall ride. Aimee had a solid first run but also got a rough weather window on her second but still finished with a solid 25th place finish.

Although the Men's Slopestyle event has now been cancelled, Britain's Ben Kilner and Dom Harington will be competing in the Snowboard Halfpipe event on Thursday 22nd August.

In July, British Ski and Snowboard received a funding boost from UK Sport ahead of the Olympics in Sochi.  This fantastic support from UK Sport helps make it possible for our teams to take part in the Winter Games in New Zealand.
