On the 7th day of the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships in Meribel, the sun returned for the Men’s Giant Slalom and the Ladies Slalom for two great races.

With the warmer temperatures and race to beat the slush, Jack Gower, from Chichester, stormed the Men’s GS runs finishing his first run in 1.05.80, second run in 1.04.16, and finishing with a total time of 2.09.96. Jack was joined on the Men’s GS U21 podium by Graeme Price, Argyll, 2nd, 2.17.74, and Gregory Saunders, Savoie 3rd, 2.19.10.

Talking about his race, Gower commented: “I usually like to take my own line in the GS but that wasn’t really possible today with the conditions, I found it a little tricky but I managed to get down.”

In the U18 category, Billy Major from Savoie, France, enjoyed a win after a 2.15.46 combined time, joined by Alexander Adamson who finished 2nd, (2.19.57), and Fraser Buchan who came in 3rd, (2.22.63).

In the Ladies NJC U21 Slalom, Charlotte Guest made it her 3rd title win of the Delancey Alpine National Championships, beating both her international and British competitors with a significant lead of 3.68 seconds and a final time of 1.52.39 (1st run 54.21, 2nd run 58.18). Charlotte was joined by Bethany Widdup, Lancashire, who came in 2nd with a total time of 1.57.96, and closely followed by Alice MacAulay, Surrey, who finished 3rd with a time of 1.58.02.

Meanwhile in the U18 category, Darcie Mead, Surrey, topped the U18 Ladies Slalom podium with a time of 1.58.33, joined by Sofia Iglina, Piemonte, finishing 2nd with a time of 2.05.33 and Sarah Adams, Godalming, in 3rd with a total time of 2.17.58.

Charlie Guest spoke after her race: “I’m happy with my performance today, I took it easy on the 2nd run, I just wanted to finish whilst maintaining my lead. The girls conditions were actually really good, it was nice during the first run earlier this morning and on the 2nd run we were lucky that the sun hadn’t been on the race piste for too long by the time I got down.”
