Independent Olympic Selection Process review
The Board of British Ski and Snowboard have commissioned an independent review of the Olympic qualification criteria and selection processes and their application in relation to selection of athletes for recommendation for inclusion in TeamGB for the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. The Board wish to gain an external view and examine whether any changes need to be made. The review will include:
- Gaining a full and complete understanding of the process and qualification criteria
- An assessment of whether BSS followed the process
- An assessment of whether, given the responsibility assigned by the IOC to the BOA, the correct qualification level was established
- Examination of whether the process and criteria were transparent and communicated as that athletes and coaches understood what was expected
- An appraisal of whether athletes were able to measure their progress against the criteria
They have asked Sarah Rowell from Wharton Consulting to carry out this review. Sarah competed in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and finished 14th in the Marathon. She holds a PhD in Sports Science, is a Director of UK athletics and the London Marathon, an adviser to Sport England and UK Sport and she has helped many British sporting organisations with governance and elite programme management.
