Highest World Cup points for Musgrave and first World Cup finish for Tilley
In the Tour de Ski (the annual event where rounds of the Cross Country World Cup are linked together), Andrew Musgrave finished in 17th place in the first event in Oberstdorf (Germany) which was the Sprint Prologue. In snowy conditions, he had a fantastic ski and the result gave him his best ever World Cup points. For sister Posy and team mate Andrew Young, conditions worsened for the later start bibs and they failed to make an impact on the field.
The second event of the Tour de Ski was reduced to a 1.5km Free Sprint with continued snowy conditions. Andrew Musgrave finished in 21st and Andrew Young in 49th. In the Ladies 1.5k Free Sprint Posy Musgrave came in 64th.
In Alpine Skiing, Alex Tilley had her first ever World Cup finish in the Giant Slalom in Leinz, Austria. In a strong performance she came in 44th after her first run, 1.03 off 30th, therefore missing out on a second run. For team mate Charlie Guest, she also failed to qualify for her second run in the World Cup Slalom in Leinz, but again proved she can compete on the World Cup circuit.
For action this week, there is the next leg of the Cross Country Tour de Ski on New Year’s Eve with a Sprint in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Then next weekend more comprehensive action resumes across many of the ski disciplines.
