Head Ski Cross Coach announced for new British Ski and Snowboard Cross (GBX) programme

British Ski & Snowboard have today announced that Gar Trayner has been appointed as the Ski Cross Head Coach within the new British Ski and Snowboard Cross (GBX) programme.

The new GBX programme has brought together the two disciplines of Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross with an aim of strengthening the performance of both disciplines by sharing resources. The GBX programme, funded by the athletes and managed by British Ski and Snowboard, will consist of Performance Manager Dan Brier, Snowboard Cross Head Coach James Foster and Ski Cross Head Coach Gar Trayner. The programme will involve the sharing of sports specific practioners, on-snow training venues and equipment.

Gar Trayner was a member of the British Alpine Ski Team for seven years, competing at the 2002 Winter Olympics. He has been a World Cup Ski Cross coach for three years and was previously Head Coach of the British Children’s National Ski Team and a coach with the Scottish National Ski Team. As GBX Ski Cross Head Coach he will be in charge of leading the coaching, tracking and development of the British Ski Cross programme.

Paddy Mortimer, BSS Performance Director said of the appointment, "We are extremely pleased to have someone with Gar’s experience and knowledge of Ski Cross joining BSS.  We have a promising number of skiers who are working hard to make Ski Cross a strong Olympic discipline.  Gar will be working along-side Dan Brier, the Performance Manger for Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross and James Foster the Head Snowboard Cross coach. Gar has extensive experience of ski racing that will help close the gap to podium.”

Gar Trayner said of his appointment: “I am looking forward to working within the new GBX programme and working with a team of professionals dedicated to Ski and Snowboard Cross. We have strong ambitions to develop our pool of talent and ensure we have athletes representing our country in the next Winter Olympics.”
