Dave Ryding finishes 17th in Sochi 2014 Men's Slalom

Dave Ryding placed 17th in the men’s slalom on his second Winter Olympic appearance, an improvement of ten places from his debut Games in Vancouver.

Ryding clocked a time of 49.40 seconds from his first run and 56.51 from his second to finish with an overall time of 1:45.91 minutes.

On his performance

“I am pretty gutted. I made a schoolboy error really. I knew about it, I knew what to do, and I did the wrong thing.
“Other than that it was a really good run but it was over before I could even have a shot.
“It’s a really, really tough course. It’s a good course, it’s so challenging but it’s a hard course and it would have suited me.”

On his aims in the slalom

“I was aiming to get top 30 and then as you can see absolutely anything can happen.
“I’ve said that all along, you never know what's going to happen in this sport. Unfortunately I was on the receiving end of a kicking from the course.”

Are his best years ahead

“100 per cent. I didn’t start [the sport] until really late. I haven’t come that good until the last few years.
“My body feels great, a lot of people have got aches and pains but I’m in great shape thanks to the physical training I've been doing.
“I’ve got plenty of years in me and plenty more years to improve.”
