British Ski and Snowboard Round-Up
As the competitive season draws to a close, the past two weeks have been busy for Great Britain’s skiing and snowboarding stars.
Monday saw the Delancey British National Alpine Senior Championships draw to a close with Cara Brown and Dougie Crawford taking the overall titles after some exciting racing in Meribel. The Championships also saw Chemmy Alcott complete her last ever competitive ski race as she retired in style (see attached photo).
This week it has been the turn of the rising stars in the U16 and U14 races at the Delancey British National Alpine Championships. With mixed conditions in Meribel, the Boys U16 racing was dominated by Zak Vinter who won the Super G, GS and Slalom races. Over in neighbouring Courchevel the Scottish National Championships and FIS races have been taking place with Cara Brown and Alistair Stang being crowned the Overall Scottish Champions today.
There has been marked success at the Junior World Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Championships in Valmalenco, Italy. Katie Summerhayes was crowned World Junior Champion in Ski Slopestyle after dominating in a strong field. Other significant results at the Junior World Freestyle Ski and Snowboard Championships included Rowan Coultas taking 2nd spot in the Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle and Katie Ormerod taking 3rd. Cal Sandieson came 7th in Ski Slopestyle – his best ever finish in an international competition
There was also success for Katie Ormerod and Rowan Coultas at the World Rookie Fest in Ischgl, Austria. Katie took gold in Snowboard Slopestyle and Rowan came 3rd for the boys.
In Speed Skiing, Jan Farrell took silver at the SpeedMasters in Vars, France. Following Farrell’s Overall World Cup SDH win he was one of the favourites going into the event. He was just nudged out of the top spot by Gregory Meichtry from Switzerland who broke the previous SDH World Record (210.770km/h, standing since 2006 in Les Arcs) with a speed of 211.025km/h.
