Beijing Air + Style, Lillehammer Cross Country World Cup and First Halfpipe World Cup Action
GB Park and Pipe snowboarder Billy Morgan is competing in the Beijing Air+Style this weekend, on a mind-blowing manmade jump in the middle of the Bird’s Nest Stadium. Big crowds are set to witness the Big Air competition starting tomorrow (see main image).
Over in Norway, the British Nordic team head to Lillehammer for the next Cross Country World Cup starting this Saturday. After a great 33rd place finish by Andrew Musgrave in the World Cup in Ruka, he will be looking to continue his form, with Andrew Young and Posy Musgrave also competing in Lillehammer
This week saw the start of the first World Cup Ski Halfpipe in Copper Mountain, with GB Park and Pipe athlete James Machon missing out on the final, finishing 12th in his heat.
Today is the turn of the snowboarders, with Ben Kilner using the event as a stepping stone back into top level competition.
Aerials skier Lloyd Wallace will compete in the Aerials Europa Cup in Ruka this weekend (5th-7th December), hoping to stamp his mark on the field at the start of the season. He joins Moguls skier Ellie Koyander who is training in Ruka ahead of next weekend’s Moguls World Cup (13th December).
In Alpine Skiing, many of the Delancey British Alpine Team have been in Copper Mountain and Aspen competing in the North American Cup races. There was another good result from Alex Tilley, finishing 18th in the Ladies Nor-Am GS race in Aspen yesterday.
There was bad news for the Ski Cross athletes this week, with the International Ski Federation (FIS) confirming that the Val Thorens Ski Cross World Cup, due to take place from 11th – 13th December, has been postponed until January due to the snow conditions.
In the Cross Country world, however, there was some good news, with Lynne Gray, Beth MacLean and Duncan Gibb being selected to represent Great Britain in the European OPA Under18 Championships. The Championships will take place from 19th-21st December in St Ulrich, Italy. This event will be an opportunity for the athletes to measure themselves against their European age group peers.
