Alcott claims win before retirement and Moynihan takes top spot in Super Combined at Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships
Day four of the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships in Meribel saw Chemmy Alcott claim another win in her final race of her career and Nick Moynihan took the victory ahead of Dougie Crawford and Jack Gower.
Nick Moynihan skied well in both the Super G and Slalom and finished in a combined time of 1.58.05. Just behind him was Dougie Crawford (1.58.33) who before today had won all his other races at the Championships. Third spot went to Jack Gower (1.59.44).
Moynihan commented: “I am delighted. I came into today not really expecting to get a result but I managed to pull it out the bag! I haven’t skied much Super G this year so I didn’t really feel any pressure. I just thought I’ll give it all I can and I ended up finding some nice lines. In the slalom I just needed to catch the guys who were ahead of me – and I did!”
In the Ladies Super Combined Chemmy Alcott took the title in a time of 2.02.04. Just behind her was Cara Brown in 2.03.98. Third place went to Alice Macaulay (2.04.50), her first time on the podium in these Championships.
Alcott said: “This has been my best ever British Championships. I just had fun out there today and totally took the pressure off myself. It was a bonus to win today. When I was in the start date I thought ‘this is the last time I will be in this position’ and I had to fight back some tears. But then as I started skiing I really enjoyed it and seeing all the people I care about in the finish area was really special.”
The Super G element of the Super Combined doubled up as the National Junior Championships Super G. In the Men’s Under 21 category Jack Gower was crowned champion with Nick Moynihan in 2nd and Max Baggio in third. In the Ladies’ Under 21 category Cara Brown won with Alice Macaulay in 2nd and Rachelle Rogers in 3rd. In the Men’s Under 18 category Billy Major stood at the top of the podium with Jordan Fellows in 2nd and Jake Lismore in 3rd. For the Under 18 Women Darcie Mead was crowned champion with Honor Clissold in 2nd and Isadora Taylor in 3rd.
The 2014 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships - the biggest event in the British Alpine ski racing calendar is supported for the fourth year by Delancey who is also the Principal Sponsor of British Ski and Snowboard. The Senior and Junior Championships take place from 30 March to 7 April, followed by the Under 16 and Under 14 Championships, from 8 April to 11 April.
