Air + Style in LA, Nordic World Championships kick off in Falun & Team BSS stars shine in Bormio
Yesterday saw the action begin for the British Cross Country team at the World Nordic Ski Championships in Falun, Sweden. Andrew Young finished 40th in the Men’s Classic Sprint, with Posy Musgrave 44th in the Women’s Classic Sprint and teammate Sarah Hale finishing 57th. Tomorrow sees Andrew Young competing again in the Men’s Skiathlon alongside Andrew Musgrave. Sunday is then the Team Sprint for Posy and Sarah.
Over in Los Angeles, the Air + Style contest makes its final stop, where Air + Style riders will battle it out in Pasadena to be crowned overall Tour Champion. For the final stop, held in the grounds surrounding the iconic Rose Bowl stadium, the top freestyle skiers from around the world have also been invited to compete. GB Park and Pipe’s Billy Morgan will be joined by team mate representing GBR in the ski event. Delancey World Cup skier Dave Ryding is competing in the Jaun (Switzerland) Europa Cup Slalom tomorrow as he aims for the podium at the penultimate event on the Europa Cup Slalom Tour.
Following fantastic results at the World Championships in Vail, Alex Tilley returns to Europe to compete in the Maribor World Cup in Slovenia with the Giant Slalom on Saturday, followed by the Slalom on Sunday.
Fellow Delancey Alpine athlete Rachelle Rogers has been competing in the Bad Wiessee Europa Cup in Germany with the two Slalom night events taking place yesterday and today. Following a DNF in the 2nd run yesterday, Rachelle is hoping to capitalize today to make her first EC result of the year.
Many of the Delancey British Alpine Ski Team were competing at the English Alpine Ski Championships in Bormio, Italy this week, with some significant performances from the rising stars including Jordan Fellows, Robert Poth and Anna Henderson. But it was Darcie Mead and Ollie Davies who took the titles of Overall English Ski Champions after Darcie had a clean sweep across all three disciplines – Super G, GS and Slalom and Ollie took the win in both the GS and Slalom. In the Ski Cross World Cup in Tegernsee, Germany, Liz Stevenson and Pam Thorburn are both skiing in the qualification round today. If they are successful they will make it through the finals, which take place on both Saturday and Sunday.
Monday sees the start of the Telemark World Championships in Steamboat Springs, USA. The first day of competition is Tuesday 24th where our two British competitors, Jaz Taylor and Sion Bingham start their schedule in the Sprint Classic. Both athletes will be competing in all events.
Next week sees the GB Park and Pipe team over in Park City,Utah for the next World Cup on the circuit. Action starts on Wednesday with Ski Halfpipe and Snowboard Slopestyle kicking off the action.
