Action continues at Freestyle World Championships, X-Games starts today for Woodsy and Kitzbühel World Cup action for Ryding
After Katie Summerhayes’ magnificent Silver medal yesterday, and Aimee Fuller’s 7th place in the Snowboard Slopestyle, the action continues for the British team at the Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in Kreischberg.
Today sees James Machon riding in the Ski Halfpipe finals, which start at 17.00 UK time (live on British Eurosport 2) after qualifying in a fantastic 10th place yesterday. Unfortunately Murray Buchan and Molly Summerhayes didn’t make it through to the finals, with a 19th for Murray and 11th for Molly in her World Champs debut. Tomorrow sees Billy Morgan, Rowan Coultas and Sam Turnbull compete in the Men’s Big Air Qualifiers, with finals taking place on Saturday.
In Ski Cross, Pam Thorburn, Liz Stevenson and Ed Drake are all in action in Kreischberg in the Ski Cross qualifiers on Saturday, with finals taking place on Sunday. The Big Air finals on Saturday and the Ski Cross finals on Sunday will both be shown on British Eurosport and BBC online and on the red button (see details below).
Over in Aspen, James ‘Woodsy’ Woods will tackle the Ski Slopestyle eliminations today at the X Games. The action kicks off at midday MST, which is 7pm UK time. If he makes it through, he will look to emulate his X Games success of 2013 where he took a bronze medal. The Ski Slopestyle finals take place at 11am MST on Saturday, which is 6pm UK time.
For the Delancey British Alpine Ski Team, it is a busy time for many of the athletes. Dave Ryding will tackle the Slalom course on Sunday at the Kitzbühel World Cup, looking to improve on his 25th place in Wengen last weekend. The action can be seen live on Eurosport, with the first run taking place at 9.15am UK time.
Alpine skier Jack Gower had a great result in Leogang, Austria this week, taking the top spot in the FIS GS race and scoring his 2nd best ever FIS GS point results on a tricky course. In the same races, Darcie Mead finished 2nd on Wednesday after her 3rd place on Tuesday.
Alex Tilley is at the Zell am See Europa Cup at the moment, but unfortunately DNF’d her first two races – the Slalom on Tuesday and GS yesterday. Today she takes on another GS where she will be hoping to finish in a strong position. Over in Val d’Isere, British team mates Billy Major and Roy Steudle are both competing in the Europa Cup Super G on Friday.
Following on from Monday’s results in the Dual Moguls competition in Kreischberg, where Ellie Koyander came 23rd in the Ladies’ field, whilst Andrew Longley unfortunately DNF’d in the men’s, they will now join fellow GBR Moguls athletes Makayla Gerken-Schofield, Liam Keyes, and Sam Houston at the Krispl Europa Cup this weekend.
In Cross Country, Posy Musgrave will race at the British Senior Championships this weekend , with brother Andrew currently preparing for the Norwegian Championships next week.
And good luck goes out to the athletes going out to the European Youth Olympic Festival in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein with Team GB on Saturday. The Team GB skiers and snowboarders are: Jess Anderson, Jordan Fellows, Kirsty Guest, Anna Henderson, Sofia Iglina, Euan Kick, Robert Poth and Zak Vinter (Alpine Skiing). Duncan Gibb, Lynne Gray and Beth Maclean (Cross Country). Glen Ironside and Ayla Thidling (Snowboarding).
