Roy Steudle Wins NJC Giant Slalom

Roy-Alexander Steudle admits that he has struggled for consistency when he has raced at the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships in the past but the British ski team member who divides his time between schooling in England and ski racing from his base in Austria, attributed his strong, focused but happy state of mind to be a major contribution to his winning the British Junior Giant Slalom title today.

Steudle was quickest junior in both runs today to eclipse compatriot Nick Moynihan who finished second just under half a second behind over the two runs.

" First run I was really aggressive and I made a few little mistakes on the pitch but I made it down. I was only two hundredths off the FIS winner and was pleased with that. I took a really direct line in the second run, still aggressive, keeping the skis down the hill as much as possible." Recalled Steudle, " I knew I had a chance of winning today but I was trying to get results by skiing well, not just hoping. Usually I am not good at these British championships I tend to be really tired at the end of the season, but this year I have stayed in a better frame of mind. I had four days off at home before these championships and that, I think, has made a difference."

In the Women's British Junior Slalom Alex Tilley maintained her remarkable run of wins with Imogen Taylor back on the podium again taking second place with Darcie Mead in third.
