British Under 16 Victory in Czech FIS International

Under 16 British Team racer Robert Poth has won the Slalom race at the FIS International Children's event in the Czech Republic. Rob had a great second run on a course set by team coach Andy Freshwater to take the victory in a strong international field.

BSS Alpine Performance Manager Sean Langmuir reported on the Team's performance: "Rob came close last year crashing out after being ahead in the first run, so it is especially rewarding for him to come back and win. Rob, with a number of other British Team athletes, have been on an fast improvement curve this past year. The U16 team has been introducing these young athletes to a new training programme which includes building better all round athletic capacity, and focussing on aiming high to win on the international stage. This is all part of a new BSS pathway that we are creating that covers Alpine athletes from grass roots to Olympic medals. We have had a promising start to the season with good results right up to the World Cup level, we need to ensure that this continues to progress."

This result follows some strong performances for the U16 team in the Czech national championships where the team had four athletes in the top ten. Jenny Shute, our team manager, confirmed that this is the first British victory in Czech in over 20 years, and the first FIS international victory for 15 years at this level.
