Ski Cross Pollination

Members of the U16 British Team achieved some great Skiercross results this last week.

Oliver Davies picked up a silver medal in the French junior Skiercross championships in Tignes last week.

Matthew Ray reached the final of the Coop series Skiercross in Villars, Switzerland in the U16 category.

Iain Innes won the Scottish U16 Skiercross Championships. This UK event was held by Aberdeen Snowsports Club at Glenshee in fantastic conditions over the weekend.

Ollie said it is the thrill of the jumps and the speed that excites him: "Skiercross is always changing and the jumps are really good fun. I was leading the final all the way to the finish and just got overtaken on the flats at the finish. You never know what's going to happen."

Sean Langmuir, the BSS Alpine Performance Manager is encouraging this cross-pollination: "It's great development for these young athletes to experience the jumping and head-to-head competitive nature of Skiercross. Its a little like children's Kombi racing where conditions change all the time, and the racers need to adapt and think quickly. This variety of different skills will also help them in Alpine."
