James Woods First British Snowsport Overrall World Cup Winner

In a historic weekend, James Woods has become the first British snowsport athlete to win the coveted FIS Crystal Globe. Each year, the International Ski Federation awards the Globe to the best athlete in each discipline competing at World Cup level. After James's significant wins this season, first at Ushuaia in Argentina, and then Copper Mountain in the US, James maintained his lead of 226 points and has now earnt his place in history.

Racing over from the Euro X-Games, Woodsy attended the World Cup Slopestyle final in Sierra Nevada, Spain, although withdrew from the competition, as did his closest competitor in the World Cup standings. Woodsy's title was thus secured, and he took his place on the podium in Sierra Nevada as the best athlete in the world in the Freestyle Slopestyle discipline.

A historic and extraordinarily successful season for the young skier from Sheffield - Woodsy also won a silver medal at the Freestyle World Championships, becoming only the second British medallist at World Championship level.

British Freeski Head Coach Pat Sharples said of the title win: "Woodsy winning the overall World Cup series was always the goal and we knew it could be done. I never doubted he wouldn't win it!"
