Musgrave gives World Cup star a fright in World U23 Nordic Ski Championships

Andrew Musgrave laid down a challenge to the rest of the world today at the World U23 Nordic Ski Championships.  Starting in the middle of the field with his usual tempo he provide a surprise to the big teams.  After 3.75 k he lead Russian World Cup star and eventual winner Evgeniy Belov by 22 seconds.  The trailing higher ranked skiers were all being told that they had to respond as Muzzy continued to set the pace into the 2nd of 4 laps.

The Russian team came back strongly and wore into Muzzy's lead.  The brave performance continued but Muzzy had to fight hard throughout the 4th lap as his energy levels started to fade.  He crossed the line in 6th place agonisingly close to Canadian athlete Kevin Sandau who finished 5th and frustratingly overtaken by his  Norwegian friend Thomas Vestpoe who took 4th.

Although Andrew was pleased with a very strong and positive performance his frustration with his last lap showed and he added,"to loose a podium place on the last lap is annoying".

Andrew has another chance of the podium in the pursuit event on Monday
