Britain's Senior Men Take Pole Position in the Downhill

British Champs Downhill British Podium

Exploiting glorious sunshine and near perfect conditions, this morning saw the Delancey British Seniors Downhill National Championships take place a day early, and some more great finishes for the national hosts and home nation competitors alike.

Britain's men had a great morning, with TJ Baldwin dominating the Downhill leader board. Winning the International category, despite fierce competition from French competitors Arthur Loye and Valentin Bon Betend, who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, Baldwin was also awarded the inaugural Sir John Ritblat Downhill Cup, with his time of 1:14.11. Celebrating his 33rd year of supporting the championships and Delancey's first year as primary sponsor of the event, Sir John Ritblat was there to personally present the trophy to Baldwin at the well attended prize-giving ceremony.

Matthew Thompson from Team Impulse had a great run too, winning the Non-Team British Dilnott-Cooper Cup with an impressive time of 1:15.97 seconds, whilst Nicholas Moynihan was awarded the British Under 18 Bearsden Ski Club Cup when he came in at 1:18.17.

In the Senior Ladies, following her fabulous start on the first day of the championships, Niki Sole's success story continued, as she won the British Tomkinson Challenge Cup and the Bunny Field challenge cup in a time of 1:20.05 seconds. Sole narrowly missed out on achieving a hat-trick, when Greta Small of Australia came in just one second faster and won the International Ladies Downhill.

Other British success stories of the day were Harriet Steggles, who came second with a time of 1:20.38 in the British Tomkinson Challenge Cup and Imogen Taylor, who was awarded the British Under 18 Raynsford Trophy in 1:20.66 seconds.
