Amy Williams short-listed for BBC Sports Personality Vote

British Skeleton athlete Olympic 2010 Winter Games gold medallist, Amy Williams, has been shortlisted for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.
 
Viewers can vote for Amy by phone during the live BBC Show on Sunday evening, starting at 7pm. Amy faces stiff opposition from heptathlete world-beater Jessica Ennis, golfer Graeme McDowell and boxer David Haye amongst others.
 
"We are delighted that Amy's success has been recognised and to be shortlisted for the award is a great achievement in itself", said British Skeleton President Bryn Vaile.  "We are hoping that all winter sports enthusiasts, the people of Bath and all sports lovers get behind Amy and vote for her on Sunday".
 
Bath's golden bob-skeleton girl won Britain's first individual gold medal for 30 years at the Winter Games in Vancouver earlier this year - a challenge for which she trained as part of British Skeleton's programme based at the University of Bath. Amy's Vancouver medal was only the ninth gold medal won by Britain at the Olympic Winter Games. The last British woman to win an individual gold was Jeanette Altwegg who won figure skating gold in Oslo in 1952.
 
She was chosen to carry the flag at the Closing Ceremony in Vancouver, has been awarded an MBE for Services to Sport and became only the fifth person since the Second World War to be made an Honorary Freeman of the City of Bath.
