A busy two weeks for BSS

The past two weeks has been extremely busy for British Ski and
Snowboard (BSS).
From
20th-24th October BSS exhibited at Europe's
largest consumer ski and snowboard show, at London Olympia. The
main purpose of our stand was to attract new support for
British Ski and Snowboard and we are very grateful to all those who
joined our prize draw. It was also extremely important to inform
the British ski and snow board community and members of the
snowsports industry of our role within British skiing and
snowboarding and the crucial stage of development that BSS is
in. Congratulations to James Gordon for coming
2nd in our Winter Olympics Wii Challenge at the Ski and
Snowboard Show, for which he won 2 VIP tickets to the Saturday of
the Freeze Festival.
Jack Harvard-Taylor (below), one of our Telemark skiers,
underpinned our efforts, attracting lots of interest and
highlighting the passion and
determination of all involved
with British skiing and snowboarding. Andrew Clarke (left)
further represented the Telemark ski team and we are very grateful
for his support throughout the show. We were also delighted to see
a number of our other athletes at the Show, including Max Hardy,
Craig Robinson, Sarah Hannibal, Dougie Crawford, Ed Drake, TJ
Baldwin and Britain's number one skier, Chemmy Alcott.
Our next focus was the Freeze Festival, held at Battersea Power Station 29th-31st October. This popular festival is an annual event hosted by Sports Vision and incorporates the highest level ski and snowboard competitions with an impressive music line-up. On Friday the Battle of Britain competitions took place, both at an extremely high standard. Billy Morgan claimed victory in the snowboarding and Paddy Graham won the ski competition later in the evening.
The
highlight of the weekend was the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup event,
hosted by British Ski and Snowboard, in which a number of the
world's top snowboarders participated. The format of the
competition meant that, over two qualification heats, 12 of the 68
riders progressed through to the final. A large audience, both at
the venue and on live television, followed what proved to be an
exhilarating end to the competition. Britain's latest star,
seventeen year old Jamie Nicholls, qualified for the final after
performing some impressive tricks in the first heat of
qualification. In the final he produced an outstanding double
back 10, putting him into the lead for the start of the second
round of jumps. However, the more experienced members of the field
justified their positions at the top of the world rankings by
performing remarkable tricks, and subsequently moved up the leader
board. After the 3rd round of jumps Jamie finished in
an commendable 7th place, with Marko Grilc of
Slovenia taking the overall title.
On Sunday the International Freestyle Ski Big Air competition took place. This extremely exciting competition followed a head-to-head format in the final, and ultimately ended in a Swedish 1-2-3.
If all the above has got you wanting more, BSS will be hosting the British Alpine Championships in Meribel in March 2011 and we hope to exhibit at the Ski and Snowboard Show in the future.
