2011/2012 British Alpine Team Athlete Training Now Well Underway

Stirling Training 1

The British EC team are currently training at the Scottish institute of sport in Stirling, working on their fitness and conditioning before they get back out on the snow.

Following on from last week's training camp for the Junior and FIS group, Dave Ryding, TJ Baldwin, Pam Thorburn and Jai Geyer were put through a battery of interim monitoring exercises, to assess the effectiveness of their 1st period of conditioning in the 10 week block. Incorporating monitoring into their program, which began 3 weeks ago, they returned to assess the effectiveness of the specific levels and percentages they are working on in each session in order to maximise the use of their time. 'Already we can see specific gains in strength and improvements in the athletes base level endurance said physiologist Julie Erskine. 'By having the athletes onsite we can keep a close eye on how to maximise the relatively short period of conditioning before they next hit snow'. Training continues in Stirling for the rest of the week combining bike sessions, gym work and self management of injury prevention routines.
