Profile - Becky Menday - Elite Junior

Becky has been snowboarding for about 3 to 4 years. She started snowboarding in her local snow dome at Sno!zone and quickly discovered a passion for freestyle. She entered her first UK competition in 2008, aged 9, and really enjoyed the experience. Becky has since gone on to compete all over the UK and Europe.

In January 2011 she had her first European podium in the Burton European Open in Laax in Switzerland and placed in 3rd place. She then went on to take a 4th place in the Protest World Rookie Fest in Italy. This year she also topped off her season by winning gold in her age category in the Big Air, Halfpipe and Slopestyle events in the British Championships held in Switzerland. She also took 3rd place in the overall age category for Halfpipe and Big Air.

She ended the 2010/11 season in 2nd place overall in the British Championships and reached as high as 55th in the TTR World Championships ending the season in 76th place. Outstanding results when you consider that Becky is only 12 years old.

  Her position as an 'Elite Junior' within the GB Freestyle Team has offered some outstanding coaching opportunities with the head coach Hamish Mcknight and a real chance to develop her mountain riding in both Half pipe and slope style. Becky would love to compete in a future winter Olympics especially now as slope style has been included as a discipline.
