BSS U16 Alpine Ski Squad Update

Following the summer break BSS felt it was appropriate to provide an update on the British U16 Alpine Squad for the coming season of 2013/14.

The current expectation is that the Team will attend the races in Andorra, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, at Topolino and at Abetone. This programme is the same as in recent years, and we also expect to send a full complement of 10 athletes to each race.

The selection committee will meet towards the end of September to allocate slots at the early races. At the U16 level these early slots are expected to be filled by the current members of the British U16 Alpine Ski Squad. At the U14 level these early slots will be allocated in conjunction with the Home Nations.

Slots in later races will be finalised following the seeded races that are expected to take place over the Christmas period. For U16s it is expected that there will be scope for exceptional performances to result in selections for non-squad members. For U14s there will also be scope for athletes who have not already been allocated slots to gain selections. It is at this stage that we will also look at potential 2001 athletes, although exceptional athletes from this year may be considered at an earlier stage. Again it is expected that there will be some liaison with the Home Nations over U14 selections.
