The 2011 Delancey British National Children’s Alpine Ski Championships Gets Under Way in Meribel

Following some impressive skiing from the senior and junior athletes, Tuesday 4^th April saw the first chance for the children to take to the slopes in the French resort of Meribel. 

Day 1 should have played host to the Super G training races, but owing to the recent warm weather the main Super G events were brought forward by 1 day.Despite the lack of training, the children put in some fantastic performances.  In the boy's race, Maximillan Moss took the Children's 2 title, winning the race in a fantastic time of 56.93 seconds.  He was closely followed by Laurie Taylor in 2^nd and Alexander Adamson who finished 3^rd.  Iain Innes won the Children's 1 competition to take home the Rolls Royce Trophy, after finishing in 8^th place overall.

The girl's race was no less exiting, with Honor Clissold completing the course in a time of 59.49 seconds to claim the British Aerospace Trophy and take the Children's 2 title.  Jessica Maiklem and Darcie Mead also put in amazing performance to finish 2^nd and 3^rd respectively.  In the Children's 1 competition it was Megan Jenkins who came out on top to take the Hautes Alp Cup after coming 3^rd overall.  Jessica Anderson finished 2^nd and Anna Henderson took 3^rd, both hot on the skis of the winner.

Overall, a fantastic opening day to the Children's Championships and the promise of lots more to look forward to in the days to come.
