Brits Light up the Freeze Festival!
British snowboarders have had an extremely successful start to the season at the 2011 Freeze Festival, which took place at Battersea Power Station, London at the end of October.
British Snowboard team members Jamie Nicholls and Ben Kilner both qualified for the finals of the FIS World Cup Big Air event, where Nicholls placed 4th and Kilner also finished in the top 10, in front of a 15000 strong home crowd. Janne Korpi of Finland overcame the fierce competition to take top spot.
The London crowds were treated to a great feast of snowboarding action on the Saturday, where 53 of the world's best riders were whittled down to just 10 for the final, highlighting the scale of Nicholls' and Kilner's achievements. Jamie's result has got his season to a flying start and adding to his already burgeoning reputation as one of the most promising big air competitors in the world.
The event also gave a chance for Britain's top ski and snowboarders to show case their talent in the Battle of Britain competition with James "Woodsy" Woods taking the honors in the skiing and Billy Morgan winning the snowboarding. The high standard of competition was very impressive and gets better year on year. The success of this year's Freeze Festival places all the British riders and skiers who were involved in a great position for the coming season.
To top it all off everyone had the chance to enjoy some entertainment from top bands and DJs, creating the perfect après-ski vibe and all in all a fantastic weekend.
