U14 Slalom and Mini's GS kicks off at the Delancey Alpine Children's Champs

Day two of the Delancey British Alpine Children’s Championships saw the U14 Girls and Boys Slalom and U10 and U12’s Giant Slalom. Sunshine graced the race pistes once again in Tignes but the conditions held up well.

In the Girls U14 Slalom we saw Alexa Elliff of CDC Performance take the top step of the podium in an overall time of 1.37.57 to win the Midland Ski Club Cup. Elliff was followed by Giselle Gorringe from Dragon Ski Racing who took second (1.39.09) and Isla Ward (Glasgow Ski Racing) who finished third in a time of 1.41.70.

Elliff said after the race “I am so happy to have won, especially because I was in second after the first run. I really wanted to come through and smash the second run, I went for an all-out charge because it was my final Slalom of the season. It means a lot to be able to call myself a British Champion, winning this title is a massive achievement for me so a big confidence boost.”

Next up were the U14 boys challenging for the Slalom crown. Robbie Anderson was leading after the  first run, but unfortunately crashed out on his second run leaving the victory to Ted Slade from British Ski Academy (BSA) finishing with a time of 1.33.64. Slade battled to fight off tough competition from Louis Masquelier-Page who finished in a time of 1.33.74 and Lucas Ellis 1.33.89 who finished third. Slade said: “I feel really good, although I feel bad for Robbie Anderson because he crashed out and could have won. I’m happy to have won though, and I’m really excited to be on the podium. My first run was good, I thought I skied well even though there were a few things that could have gone better. I really went for it in the second run, and knew I had nothing to lose. I came into the race hoping to be on the podium, but I didn’t expect it. I couldn’t be happier to call myself British Champion.”

Over with the minis, in the U12 Girls Giant Slalom, Mathilde Phillips took the top spot on the podium with a best run time of 33.87, closely followed by Charlotte Gray, (34.09) and Sophie Stocker (34.26). They were chased up by younger athletes Molly Butler, who finished fourth (35.09), and Maisie Blyth (35.47).

In the Boys category Luca Carrick Smith topped the podium after a storming first run, finishing with a time of 32.58, followed by Sebastian Ackerley in second (33.65). There was a close battle for third, fourth and fifth with the final results seeing James Dale taking third, (34.11), Alex Ogden fourth (34.31) and George Black fifth (34.72).
