PyeongChang 2018 - Day 4 Wrap

CROSS COUNTRY: MEN’S SPRINT CLASSIC at Alpensia Cross Country Centre

Team GB Results: Andrew Young 46th

The Individual Sprint event was always going to be a bit of a battle for Andrew Young and so it proved today with the three-time Olympian failing to progress to the elimination stages.

Young’s strongest technique is free skate, and he has finished in the top 10 at World Cup events this year when raced in that technique. However with the Olympic sprint being contested in classic, qualification from the prologue was too much of a challenge.

“I feel like I pushed hard and pushed well the whole way through the race but ended up a long way behind,” said Young. “That's just how it goes.

“I will keep on working and training for the next one.”

Young’s Games continue though, competing alongside Andrew Musgrave in the 15km Free on Friday before the pair line up together in the Team Sprint (next Wednesday)

“I've been skiing full-time long enough now that I'm used to being able to get over a race when it's disappointing,” said Young. “I've got the 15km individual to come in three days’ time.

I will have a rest day tomorrow, try and get some energy and then we'll go for that.”
