BSS Chairman and Independent Director appointments
As we implement the contents of a new Constitution we have decided to conduct an open and transparent process that will result in the appointment of a new Chair and two Independent Directors. These independent appointments are part of the requirement for a "balanced Board" that will become a pre-requisite for all organisations that receive UK Sport funding in the future.
In January 2010, after the collapse of SnowsportGB, Lord Moynihan offered to devote considerable time, effort and energy to put in place a new National Governing Body for British Snowsports. He made clear at that time that he would manage the introduction of a new performance driven, athlete centred, Constitution which gave a strong voice to all the Olympic disciplines for which the BSS has responsibility and oversee the establishment of a new Governing Body which had strong foundations, but he would wish to step back to concentrate on his many other responsibilities once these objectives had been achieved. The introduction of the new Constitution will see the achievement of those landmark objectives and he feels that the time to pass on the baton has arrived.
British Ski and Snowboard are therefore starting a recruitment process that will result in the appointment of a new Chair and two Independent Directors during the autumn. The job descriptions will be published in a variety of places, including our own website, and we are seeking high calibre individuals who are passionate about winter sports and who bring with them experience of success in their careers thus far.
We owe Lord Moynihan a huge debt of gratitude for the work that he has done to ensure that the foundations of elite British Snowsports are rebuilt. Although he will continue to work closely with us until the new Constitution is fully implemented and the new Board is in place we also expect him to have a few other matters to deal with this summer!
