BSS Announces Athlete Funding Programme for 2014/15
In August BSS announced an extension of its athlete funding within Alpine racing, today BSS announces the results of that process. The following points summarise what is being put in place:
- Direct athlete funding either through bursaries or through programmes has been increased on a like for like basis from £108,000 to just over £140,000. This is an increase of 30%.
- The three athletes who were already funded on this programme were Dave Ryding, Alexandra Tilley and Charlotte Guest. Jack Gower and Charlie Raposo have now been added to this list.
- While BSS regards precise amounts as private between the organisation and the athlete, the five athletes fall into the following bands as defined in the release in August:
- Band A: Dave Ryding
- Band B: Alexandra Tilley, Charlotte Guest and Jack Gower
- Band C: Charlie Raposo
An important part of this process is to clarify what BSS expects in return for its funding. Although details are contained in the notice of 12th August, a major part of this programme is to support athletes that have potential to increase Britain’s quota slots at World Cup and Europa Cup level. That notice also outlined a number of other indicators. The decision of the Alpine Business Group is that each of the five athletes above is already at a level consistent with those extra indicators.
The number and quality of applications exceeded expectations and all athletes should be proud of their achievements; however it is impossible to support all aspirations. We continue to work to increase funding and hope to improve support in the future if conditions permit.
As laid out in August this process was led by the Alpine Business Group reporting through the Alpine Speed and Telemark Committee. These awards are in respect of the 2014-15 Alpine season and future awards will be subject to annually updated guidelines and will of course also be subject to available funding at the time.
