Rising Talent on show in Manchester at English Indoor Mogul Championships

Last weekend marked the start of three English Indoor Championships hosted by Snowsport England at the Chill Factore, with the first weekend of action featuring the best rising talents of mogul skiing at the English Indoor Moguls Championships 2016.

In what was a fantastic display of moguls skiing on Saturday, both experienced and relative newcomers to moguls got to show off their mind-blowing skills in Manchester. The event started with training on the expertly built course, with athletes getting up to 10 runs in the bumps before qualification and then finals.

After a closely fought contest in the female competition, Genevieve Justice took the win and English title in the singles competition ahead of Abi Richardson and Catrin Howarth. In the evening dual moguls competition, it was Abi Richardson who took the win ahead of Genevieve, with Grace Harrison taking 3rd place.

In the men’s competition, Will Feneley took the win in both the single and dual competition. Lucas Atherton stepped up to take 2nd in the singles with Richard Holt putting in a solid performance to finish in 3rd place. In the dual competition, the experienced Sam Jones finished second to Feneley, who claimed his second English Indoor title of the day, with 3rd place going to James Rose.

The moguls scene in England continues to grow and this event showed that the future is in safe hands. With a strong U12 girls category, and with athletes coming in from Park & Pipe and Alpine Racing, the future looks bright for moguls.

Ian Findlay, Talent Development Officer at Snowsport England said: “It was really pleasing to see the range of skills on display at the English Moguls Championships. Credit has to go to the coaches and athletes who are working hard together to continue to build this discipline in England.”

Thank you goes to all the judges – Martin Carr, Peter and Kay Bates and Keith Marks. To the team behind the event, Ian Danby, Ania Wasielewska, Jeff Blackburn-Elliot, Ian Lunnon and Jeff Fozzard.
