Nordic World Ski Championships in full swing, Summerhayes & Atkins at SFR Freestyle Tour; plus Ski Cross & Telemark World Cup action this weekend

British Nordic

This week marks the start of the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti, Finland with Andrew Young, Andrew Musgrave, Callum Smith, James Clugnet, Annika Taylor and Fern Cates in action for British Nordic.

Yesterday, James Clugnet and Fern Cates started their World Championship campaigns in the qualifying for the distance events. Cates finished in a respectable 22nd place with Clugnet finishing in 8th place and qualifying for the 15km time trial.

Today Annika Taylor, Fern Cates, Andrew Young, Callum Smith and James Clugnet will all take on the Sprint Freestyle qualifiers, in the hope of making the Sprint Freestyle final which will also take place today. Tomorrow is the 15km Skiathlon for Annika Taylor and 30km for Andrew Musgrave and Callum Smith. 

The action will then carry on into next week with the Classic Time Trials, the Men’s 4 x 10km Relay, the Women’s 30km Freestyle Mass start and the Men’s 50km Freestyle Mass start.

GB Park and Pipe

GB Park and Pipe skiers Isabel Atkin and Katie Summerhayes are in action in the French resort of La Clusaz for the SFR Freestyle Tour, which is taking on a new format separating the contest into two sections: the Slopestyle Jump and Jib. Today Atkin finished in 4th place and Summerhayes in 5th place in the Jump finals, with Jib finals at 5pm GMT later today.

At the Europa Cup in Davos, Switzerland GB Park and Pipe Pathway athlete Maisie Hill is competing in the Snowboard Halfpipe today with Main Team athletes Fin Bremner and Henry Shackleton both tackling the Big Air tomorrow. Also in action is Pathway rider Glen Ironside who is competing in the Oslo Rookie Tour this weekend.

 

British Ski Cross

Pam Thorburn is in action at the Ski Cross World Cup in Sunny Valley, Russia where she will be looking to make a mark on the World Cup circuit. Qualifiers begin tomorrow, with finals on Saturday.

 

British Telemark

The Telemark World Cup series continues with Jasmin Taylor and Louis Hatchwell in Hurdal, Norway. The Classic takes place tomorrow, with the Parallel Sprint on Saturday and Sprint on Sunday. Jaz Taylor will be looking for another strong performance and to try and claim another World Cup podium.

British Aerials

Lloyd Wallace will be looking to claim a solid result and move up the world rankings at the Aerials World Cup in Minsk, Belarus. His event takes place on Saturday.
